The list of prizes is large and varied, so there will be something for everybody. The list includes a wheel- barrow race, which will be real thrilling, also the usual races. A special pme of $2 is being given to the party bringing in the largest load of people to the carnival. Come on out everybody, enjoy the even- ing and be young again The hand will furnish music during the evening. Tragic Conditions Surround Deaths The following dispatch hue been r- cceived regarding Dr. J. W. Mahan, whom we announced last week as having dis*ppeared : Unusually tragic have been aircum- | stance* connected with the passing of two well known Vanconvcr brokers dur- ing the past tea days. Dr. J. W. Mahan anU John A. Weatmun were partners in the insurance firm of Mahan, West- ) man. Limited. i On January :u , Dr. if (than diaappeared j and, despite careful and energetic search no tines of him could be found. His friend and partner, seriously ill of dia- , betes at th time, was not told of Ma- han'* disappearance. On February * Westman died, and on Friday last was ! buried. On Saturday, some boys playing be- ' hind the stables on the Exhibition grounds, found the body ,[ Dr. Mahan. The bdy was frozen stiff, and had evid- ently been dead several days. Mahan, who had not been in good health for some time, suffering from the same ocm- plaint as his partner, had evidently fallen from the edge of th ravine, and his head had become caught in tlie crotch of a willow stump. After the body had been removed a small bottle labelled "carbolic acid" was picked up on the spot where it had lam. This has caused some speculation, as the bottle bore the n#mc of ;i druggist Marian patronized. There were no burns on the doctor'^ mouth, however, and, as medical men , rarely end life with carbolic, it is not ' thought the bottle had any connection ' with his death.
