DEATH OF ALEX. P. LOWRY
Mr. Alex. P. Lowry, city editor of the Mail, died at an early hour yesterday morning at his residence in Gerard street West, after two months of acute suffering, in his 32nd year. By the death of Mr. Lowry the press of Tronto looses one of its most promising members, ant the newspaper men of the city loose one of their most genial comrades. Mr. Lowry like all successful reporters, drifted naturally into the ranks of daily newspaper life. He received his rudimentary training at the "case," a qualification which has been the back bone of the majority of American and Canadian reporters and editors. Many of the brightest minds of the daily press commenced at the bottom rung of the ladder, doing duty as printer's 'devil,' gallery boy, compositor, proof-reader and then into the reporters' rooms. - Toronto World
