In Flesherton, on Saturday, 28th February, the wife of Mr. Sept. Good, butcher, of a son. In Artemesia, on Monday, Feb. 23rd, Emma, sister of John and Thomas Bol and Esqrs., Meaford Road Died. -In Flesherton, on Saturday, Feb. 21st, 1885, Amelia M., beloved wife of A. R. Fawcett, Editor of the Flesheton Advance, aged 31 years. On Monday of last week two sons of Mr. Jno. Hunt, of Egremont were in the woods cutting down trees. On of the trees in falling struck against another, breaking off a limb, which fell on the head of the one who had cut down the tree so crushing his skull that he died in a few minutes. - Dufferin Advertiser. In Memoriam (Comminicated by a Sincere Friend) The inhabitants of Flesherton were shocked at the sudden demise of Mrs. A. R. Fawcett, the beloved wife of the Editor of the ADVANCE, which sad occurrence took place on the evening of February 21st, ult. Mrs. Fawcett has been a resident of our village nearly four years, and became so soon after her marriage to Mr. Fawcett. Her maiden name was Amelia M. Buchanan, of Hamilton, and a sister of the wife of the Rev. J. C. Bell of the Methodist Church, as also of the Buchanan brothers of the Hamilton Times. The family have been sorely afflicted of late be the loss of their father and mother - a sick sister, also, who has undergone a surgical operation, and is now in the hospital at Hamilton. This additional sad event, sits like a pall over them. But such is life. Mrs. Fawcett, for several years, was afflicted more or less with lung trouble, and it very materially undermined her constitution; but, notwithstanding this, her indominitable will enabled her to do much for herself, her church, and her God - so that, what others would have sunk under, she bore bravely. Judging from what we have seen since she came to our village, it is pleasant to record her amiability, her candor, her pleasantry. In the circles in which she moved, and these were the best the village could afford, she was always welcome. She was a lady possessed of more than ordinary good sense, and therefore her advice or reprehension might safely be heeded. Only a few short days sufficed to bring our dear friend to the grave - Pleuro-Pneumonia gradually, quickly and surely did its work, baffling all the skill of her physician, who knew her constitution so well, and who frequently forewarned such a possibility. Her last hours were hours characteristic of all the Christian's death. Anxious for all to meet her in Heaven, so her earnest solicitations found frequent expressions, "I am going home, " "It is growing brighter and brighter," and she, with similar glowing expressions, made us feel that her "dying bed was soft as downy pillows are." Her marriage life was felicitous in every respect, and her greatest pain was to part with her beloved husband. But the "Lord took her," and therefore "she is not." Her funeral was very largely attended, and solemn it was to carry her to the church where she was often wont to go. The solemnity of the occasion was increased by the beautiful floral offerings, the draped pulpit, the attendance of the Sons of Temperance (of which she was a member) in procession, in mourning badges, and the Choir, of which she was also a member, singing in subdued tones their appropriate selections. The occasion was improved with and impressive sermon by her pastor, the Rev. D. C. McDowell, from Ecles. ix. c., v. 10: - "Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave whither thou goest." It remains only to say, that her devoted husband has the kindly sympathies of the village, and we fondly hope that those of us who are still journeying in the wilderness, will be so faithful, that we may eventually meet her on the fair banks of deliverance. "Can you realize I am dying?" So she said, with tearless eye, as death's chill crept Wearily onward, with force unspent Until the spirit to the summons yielded But as the mariner, by careful log And bearings, oft with skill observed, Knew well his course of safety - So by night, by day- she The Beacon star of bliss Observed unclouded "It is growing brighter as I onward go!" Repeated she, unfalteringly. Strange fantasy! If in dying, there be darkness thick With every ray excluded Yet as at eventide, the taper's light Intensifies, by curtain's fall, And all more luminous within - So her soul's mortal avenues Mantled by death's shadow Intensified her light divine, Until her Pisgah, unbeelouded She beheld - and ecstasy, rapturous Exclaimed - "Glory, glory, glory" "Jesus can make a dying bed Soft as downy pillows are" Like on a silvery sea, a boat Glides onward, till to view is lost We wept, and watched and beckoned Until the gate she swept beyond Our vision quite In solitude we gaze, but murmur not Because "to Hi" beloved he hath giv'n sleep \ Advance.
