The 18th annual Downtown Oakville Jazz Festival is here. It begins today and runs through Sunday, featuring more than 30 free live concerts. Hosted by the businesses in the Downtown Oakville Business Improvement Area (BIA), it will offer various venues throughout the downtown. Aside from the music, concert goers can shop and dine at the many stores, restaurants and patios. Musicians have come from across Canada and beyond to perform at the festival -- which will also Johannes Linstead include local talent, too. Local jazz vocalist Paula Gardin performed at the festival last year and is returning along with Oakville jazz singer Margot Roi. Gardin will be perform two sets at the Jazz Stage B on Saturday from 6:30-7:45 p.m. and 9-10:15 p.m. Roi will do two sets, tonight (Friday) at Jazz Stage A from 6:30-7:45 p.m. and 9-10:15 p.m. Johannes Linstead, also of Oakville, will be on stage, too. KSM recently opened a new $6 million, 1 9 , 0 0 0 square-foot D r e a m C e n t r e , thanks to lots of community support, to expand its services and programs for Benjamin Ward its growing numbers -- including a new space for its traditional food bank. Now KSM's food bank is in a critical situation. It won't have enough food to make it through this weekend, said executive director, Benjamin Ward. "We're not going to have anything to distribute past this Saturday (Aug. 7)," said Ward." Summertime is always a slow period for donations, but KSM has been experiencing a drastic shortage this summer, just after it held a food drive, said Ward.
