BURLINGTON 905-333-6670 1-888-846-7845 Oakville Federal Liberal Candidate Max Khan announced Thursday that Justin Trudeau, the Liberal Critic for Youth and Multiculturism and the Member of Parliament for the riding of Papineau, will be visiting Oakville on Thursday, Aug. 12 for a series of public and private events. Amongst other events, Trudeau -- son of the late Prime Minister Pierre Elliot Trudeau -- will be meeting with young people at Kerr Street Ministries (KSM). "Young people in Oakville are very fortunate, and have so much that they can contribute -- to their schools, their community, and to the rest of the country," said Trudeau in a press statement. "I see getting today's youth more aware, more knowledgeable and more involved as one of the most important challenges we face as a society." Justin Trudeau Elected on Oct. 14, 2008 as Member of Parliament (MP) for Papineau, Trudeau is passionate about engaging young Canadians in politics, and in 2006 chaired the Youth Task Force of the Liberal Party Renewal Commission, generating ideas about how to engage more youth politically. Trudeau has also worked with numerous environmental groups, including the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, and from 2002 to 2006 he was chair of Katimavik, Canada's National Youth Service program. "Justin is well-known for his avid concern for a range of issues, but especially for the environment, and for the need to better engage youth in civic discussions," said Khan. "I am thrilled to be able to welcome him to the riding of Oakville, and for our young people to have a chance to hear from him directly about why they should be involved in the issues of today, and why it matters for the future of our country." Apart from his youth event at Kerr Street Ministries, Trudeau will also be speaking at a Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar luncheon and a breakfast meeting sponsored by the Oakville Federal Liberals, as well as a number of other events still to be confirmed.
