The Hip's Downie hitting Centre stage Though the concert is still several months away, don't wait too long to buy these tickets if you are a Gord Downie fan, because they won't last long. Gord Downie, the lead singer and lyricist of the Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip, is coming to the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts for a concert on Oct. 26. But a recent look at the Centre's website reveals that only a handful of tickets still remain for the Canadian musician's show. Downie recently released his third solo album, The Grand Bounce, following two previous albums in 2001 and 2003. At the Oakville concert, Downie will be backed by the band The Country of Miracles, which is featured on all three of his solo albums. The Amherstview, Ontario born musician is the front man of one of the biggest Canadian bands, and it's still going strong after nearly 30 years. The Tragically Hip has released more than a dozen albums, 46 singles and won 14 Juno Awards. The local show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $69.99 and are available at www.oakvillecentre.ca. 23 · Wednesday, July 14, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com SUPPLIED PHOTOS NOT SO BAD: Three area photographers are putting on a show. Three photographers hold art exhibit The Greater Toronto Area's Greenbelt will be on display when three Oakville photographers hold a show of their work this month. The show, titled In the Shadow of the GTA Greenbelt, will be visible to viewers from July 17 to 28 at Sovereign House in Bronte Village. The three artists are Bill Smith, Gary van Eijk and Les Lengyel, doing their first group show together. Smith is the co-founder and vice president of the Oakville Camera Club, while Lengyel won the grand prize in the camera club's Capture Oakville 2008 photography contest. Van Eijk placed second in two categories in the same contest in 2009. "This exhibit is the result of a lot of hard work," said Bill Smith. "We all love the great outdoors and I first floated the idea of the GTA Greenbelt being a possible subject because I have a long fascination for the region around Greater Toronto through my love of hiking sections of the Bruce Trail."
