Oakville Galleries gives birth to A Girl in Real Life By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Oakville Galleries will be hosting the work of two artists at its two locations that depict some of life's realities. The exhibits, titled Real Life, open Saturday, June 26. The gallery at Centennial Square will feature the work of Australian-born, London-based Ron Mueck. The gallery at Gairloch Gardens will feature the work of Israeli-born, Berlinbased Guy Ben-Ner. Mueck is a realist sculptor, whose work depicts that we are born into a world that is not of our making and that aging and death are unavoidable. The work of Ben-Ner, on the other hand, uses humour to depict everyday life through videos and installations featuring himself and his family. The two exhibits, shown side by side, show a contrast in human ideals. The opening will take place Friday at the Centennial Square location from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. followed by a reception at the Gairloch Gardens gallery from 8:30 to 10 p.m. The exhibits are open until Sept. 5. They are circulated by the National Gallery of Canada and curated by Jonathan Shaughnessy.
