Sara, a graduate of St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic Secondary School, hanged herself in her parent's basement on Sunday, May 6, 2007. At the time Sara had been taking Paxil, a powerful anti-depressant, for which Health Canada has issued advisories due to the possible increased risk of suicidal events in children and adolescents who take it. The 13-year-old was a constant topic of discussion for Susie Rotenberg, a single Oakville mother, and continued to be until the day when she suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on May 15. "The day that Susie went into the hospital, I ran into her beside her car, and she just glowed about Julian and his recent adventure with Dreams Take Flight," said Kathleen Finnegan, a close family friend and neighbour. Julian was one of the selected individuals to go to Disney Land in Florida for a day. "That day she was flipping through her camera phone and bragging and bragging about this child," Finnegan said. "She was just so proud of him in everything he did." Susie had a lifelong battle with Factor XI (11) Deficiency, also known as Hemophilia C, for which she needed regular treatments. In mid-May she was complaining of a back pain. Due to the severity of the pain she went to the hospital on a Friday evening and it turned out that she had a kidney infection, which was complicated further because of her medical condition. "The kidney infection just went into her bloodstream and that was it. There was no way they could get it out of her See Garage page 7
