West Oak overall champ at Everett meet Weekend losses drop West Oak Public School won two division pennants and finished second in another, earning enough points to win the overall championship at the Halton District School Board's elementary Everett track-and-field meet recently in Burlington. West Oak claimed the junior girls' and senior girls' titles en route to earning 312.5 overall points. Milton's Hawthorne Village was second overall with 302.75 points. Post's Corners also enjoyed a strong meet, winning the intermediate boys' pennant (thanks in part to three event wins by student Will Ellis) and finishing second in the intermediate girls' division. Post's Corners was fourth overall with 236.75 points. Falgarwood was the other local school to participate in the Everett meet, one of six the Halton board held this spring. After winning three straight games to bolster its playoff positioning, the Oakville Buzz continued its up-anddown season with two home losses last weekend. Oakville dropped a 15-12 decision to the Orangeville Northmen Friday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, then was humbled 12-4 by the undefeated Six Nations Rebels Sunday. The Buzz (8-7) currently sits seventh in the Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B Western Conference standings with five games left on its schedule. Friday's loss overshadowed a strong effort by Connor Gamble, who had four goals and an assist. Braden Gallant added three goals and two helpers, while Tyler Albrecht chipped in with two goals and two assists. Alex Kruse, Danny Lomas and Robert Bentivegna had Oakville's other markers. Sunday, the Buzz trailed 5-2 after one period and 11-3 after 40 minutes. Bryan Cole, Spencer Gallant, Lomas and Gamble scored for Oakville in a losing cause. Graeme Kirkness was in goal for Oakville Sunday, while Tyler Sullivan got the start Friday. The Buzz hopes to rebound this weekend as it is home to the Hamilton Bengals Friday (an 8 p.m. start at Glen Abbey), then travels to Wallaceburg Sunday for a date with the Red Devils. Oakville trailed Toronto 27-0 at halftime. Dan Seymour finally got the Longhorns on the scoreboard with a 22yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and Mark Demerling threw a 20-yard TD pass to Kyle Kneller in the final minute to account for Oakville's other major. Kneller scored a two-point conversion after Seymour's TD. The Longhorns once again struggled to establish a running game, gaining 37 yards on 23 carries. Through the air, Demerling connected on nine of 18 passes for 127 yards, but was intercepted three times. Oakville's Stephen Moore had five catches for 55 yards in the loss, while Stafford Wilson led the Longhorns with 6.5 tackles. The Maddogs, Sault Ste. Marie Steelers and Ottawa Invaders remain undefeated this season at 2-0. Oakville looks to break into the win column this weekend when it visits the Toronto Raiders (0-1) Saturday, a 7 p.m. start at Esther Shiner Stadium. GOLF CAMPS START March Break Fun!
