At the May board meeting, the trio was introduced to the board of trustees. The election of the three new student trustees took place at Holy Trinity S.S. in Oakville on April 29. Potential candidates responded to numerous questions from Student Senators. After all the candidates were interviewed, the Student Senate voted by secret ballot. Student trustees represent the interests of more than 9,500 students attending Halton's Catholic high schools. During their term of office student trustees have the same rights as trustees to participate at meetings of the board and at meetings of committees of the board. Student trustees can cast non-binding votes at board meetings and may be present at private sessions of the board. The new student trustees are Clarisse Schneider, a Grade 10 student at St. Ignatius of Loyola S.S. in Oakville, Jordan Cole, a Grade 11 student at Assumption Briar Culbert of Notre Dame S.S. Peric, a Grade 11 Honour Roll student, is an active member in her parish, Queen of Peace in Norval as a reader at mass and is part of the church's music ministry. She is also active in a variety of co-curricular pursuits including School Council, Student Prefect, Social Justice Committee, School Reach Team, Senior Band and a number of school clubs and teams. Peric replaces North Halton student trustee Steven Slowka of Christ the King S.S. Schneider, a Grade 10 Honour Roll student, is an active member in her parish of St.Matthew's, where she is involved with their Youth Group, the music ministry and is a Eucharistic Minister. She has been on Student Council, the Jazz Band, the Minister of Education's Student Advisory Committee, the school newspaper and the Southern Ontario Model United Nations Assembly. Schneider replaces Oakville student trustee Chelsea Gray of St. Thomas Aquinas S.S. Clarisse Schneider Secondary School in Burlington, and Christiane Peric, Grade 11 at Christ the King S.S. in Georgetown. Cole is a Grade 11 Honour Roll student. He is an active member in his parish of Holy Rosary. At school he has been a member of Student Council, the Mock Trial team, the track and field team and school drama productions. He recently won the Performing Arts Award at Assumption. He also volunteers at the Burlington Dance Studio and is Synergy Ambassador to the McMaster University Summer Business Program.
