The choir is hosting its final concert of the season on Saturday, May 29 but to cap off the year, some of its choristers will be performing in Greece this summer. Some 30 of the OCC's Senior Choir members are heading across the Atlantic for a choral tour from June 29 to July 10. In Greece, the choristers will participate in the 28th International Choir Festival of Preveza and the 16th International Competition of Sacred Music. The tour will feature performances in ancient amphitheatres. "We are so excited to be going to Greece. Choristers get to meet, sing with and listen to the performances of other choirs from around the world thus stretching their musical and cultural horizons," said OCC Music Director Sarah Morrison in a press release. "We get to experience a culture and land outside of Canada as well as represent Canada on the world stage. It is a privilege to be able to tour!" The choir is looking for local business and individual sponsors to both clothe the choristers in new uniforms for the occasion and to help pay for expenses. The new wardrobes will be worn by some 30 choristers when they tour Greece this summer. However, the OCC is still looking for funding to buy enough clothes for everyone. "Choristers are representing Oakville and Canada and we want them to look their best on the international stage," said OCC executive director Judy Opar, in the release. The choir is also holding several fundraisers to help offset expenses. The families of the choristers who choose to come will pay their own fare, while the choristers will have their expenses subsidized through the fundraising. The next fundraiser is a Greek Dinner June 5 at 6 p.m. at St. Simon's Anglican Church, located at 1450 Litchfield Dr. The senior choristers will be the servers. Dinner tickets cost $30 for adults and $20 for children and seniors. For tickets, call the choir office at 905-337-7104. The final concert of the season will take place at Clearview Christian Reformed Church, 2300 Sheridan Garden Dr., at 3 p.m. The concert, titled Songs and Rhythms of the Earth, will celebrate different cultures in song. Oakville's Jamie Drake, percussionist and member of the TorQ percussion quartet, will be the featured guest artist. The concert will also feature readings from the OCC's poetry contest.
