Oakville Taste May 30 Car wash fundraiser this Saturday Oakville restaurateurs and caterers are teaming up to share food and hope. Oakville Taste 2010 is taking place Sunday, May 30 at Appleby College. Participants will be able to sample and pair signature foods, food styles, beers and wines from local producers at the event. The net proceeds from this event, which includes a silent auction, will be donated to Kerr Street Ministries, a non-denominational charity that serves 5,000 people a year, providing hope, support and care for children, youth, and low-income families across Oakville. There will also be sponsor displays and demonstrations to round out the `flavour' of this one-of-akind Oakville event. "Oakville Taste is shining a spotlight on all things local", says Dave Higgins, event organizer, Higgins Event Rentals. "This event provides an exciting opportunity for local businesses to promote the talent that exists here in this community. We are extremely fortunate to live in a town with exceptional cuisine and a very supportive community that gets behind a worthwhile cause." The event runs 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets cost $75 and are available at Sheridan Nurseries, Whole Foods Market, Higgins Event Rentals or online at www.oakvilletaste2010.com. This June will be the third annual Ride to Conquer Cancer between Toronto and Niagara Falls. It will also be the third year that Oakville's Brendan Aldersley will be participating in the 200 km bike ride to benefit the Campbell Family Institute at The Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto. In the previous two years, Aldersley has raised more than $6,000. To help him to raise money for this year's event he is hosting a car wash at Glen Abbey United Church Saturday, May 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. All money raised will go to the hospital. "I'm riding mainly because of my father, who was diagnosed with the most aggressive form of brain cancer. He was diagnosed six years ago," Aldersley wrote in an email. "Even though the doctors gave him a year to live, he still stands beside me today in the fight against cancer." The church is located at 1469 Nottinghill Gate. 27 · Friday, May 28, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Sprin g Rescreen Sale Spring has sprung! The bugs are about...
