Artworks Oakville is a non-profit volunteer organization in its 19th year, whose aim is to support local emerging artists by providing exhibition opportunities throughout Oakville. Student films at TIFF A pair of fledgling filmmakers from Sheridan College will have their work showcased at one of the biggest movie stages in the country. Mark Andrew Bone and Lily Sun will have their films screened at the Toronto International Film Festival's (TIFF) seventh annual Student Film Showcase Wednesday, May 26. The showcase will feature 11 student films from across the country selected from more than 500 submissions. "Films selected for this year's Student Film Showcase cover a wide range of themes and these students should be proud of their cinematic achievements," said programmer Magali Simard. Bone's film is titled Escarpment Surfers and Sun's film is Sketchi. A jury of industry professionals will select winners for prizes. Taste of Oakville on the menu May 30 The taste of Oakville will be on the menu when over a dozen restaurateurs, caterers and bakers combine their efforts later this month. Oakville Taste 2010 is taking place Sunday, May 30 at Appleby College. Participants will be able to sample and pair signature foods, food styles, beers and wines from local producers at the event. There will also be a silent auction. The net proceeds of the event will go to Oakville's Kerr Street Ministries food bank. The event runs 2 to 6 p.m. Tickets cost $75.
