Union Gas customers can pick up a free Energy Saving Kit at The Home Depot store, 3300 S. Service Rd. W., in Oakville, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 15, while supplies last. "These kits empower customers to better manage their energy use, allowing them to conserve more energy at home and by doing so lower their energy bills as well as reduce the impact on the environment," said Mel Ydreos, vicepresident of marketing and customer care at Union Gas. "Natural gas continues to be the best energy choice for consumers and costs significantly less than electricity for space or water heating." Almost 20 per cent of a home's energy bill goes to heating water for showers and washing dishes, clothes and hands. Each Energy Saving Kit packs about $35 of easy-toinstall items that reduce the energy used to heat water in the home delivering up to $100 in energy savings every year. This cleaner and greener initiative also cuts air emissions and water consumption. By installing these items, customers will help eliminate close to 200 kg of carbon dioxide emissions and over 20,000 litres of water consumption per household annually. "Being green in the home isn't just about large, costly projects, it's also about simple everyday steps people can take to have a positive impact on their surroundings. Union Gas has distributed more than 179,000 free energy savings kits in the past two years.
