www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, May 5, 2010 · 34 Losses encouraging for Buzz coach Like any coach, Sam Rook enjoys wins much more than losses. But the Oakville Buzz bench boss can still see the positives from a winless weekend for his squad that dropped the club's record to 2-2 in Ontario Lacrosse Association junior B action. Oakville was competitive in games last weekend against a pair of undefeated teams considered by many as the cream of the crop in the OLA's West Conference. The Buzz was defeated 10-8 by the Elora Mohawks Friday at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre, then allowed a pair of late goals Sunday to fall 12-10 to the Six Nations Rebels in Six Nations. "Both are pretty strong teams and a little confidence even came out of the games because we know we can compete with them," Rook said. "This gives us a good incentive to go forward." Rook felt the biggest culprit in both losses for the Buzz was an inability to stay focused for the entire game. That might have been particularly true Sunday, when Six Nations outscored Oakville 6-1 during a fiveminute stretch in the second period. "We need to take care of our mental lapses and be focused for an entire game," said Rook. "Part of it is the age that the entire league is at. It's going to happen to everybody. We've lost a lot of veteran guys, particularly on defence, to Burlington (the Buzz's junior A affiliate), and now there's some adjustment time for people to take larger roles than they had last year." Patrick Corbett continues to be a pleasant early-season surprise for the Buzz. The rookie, who had two goals and two assists Friday and added three helpers Sunday, leads Oakville in scoring through four games. "He was one of our last cuts last year, and he's stepped up very well for us," Rook said. "He's also been a very solid contributor playing in a transition role and coming back to play some defence for us." Braden Gallant also had a productive weekend, notching hat tricks in both games. Jamie Elliott, Dylan Gilbert and Spencer Gallant rounded out the Oakville scoring Friday, with Dan Lomas (two), Bryan Cole, Ryan Adams, Kevin Harper, Robert Bentivegna and Brad Galante finding the net Sunday. The Buzz has two winnable games on its schedule in the upcoming week. Oakville will visit the 0-4 Guelph Regals tomorrow (Thursday), then return home Sunday for an 8 p.m. clash with the 1-2 Niagara Thunderhawks at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. -- Jon Kuiperij More cost-effective kitchen remodeling options than any other company! a.
