15 · Friday, April 30, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Salvation Army launches A-Dollar-A-day in May With Red Shield month fast approaching, the Salvation Army in Oakville is launching A-DollarA-Day in May. The campaign begins Saturday, May 1 at Oakville Place Mall. A community booth will be set up for the duration of mall hours, from 9:30-6 p.m. between Timothy's and Purdy's Chocolates. A Dollar-A-Day for the month of May is a fundraising initiative in support of the the Salvation Army Red Shield Fund, which supports the Salvation Army's programs and services. People are asked to simply set aside $1 for each day during the month of May and make a donation to the Salvation Army. "The concept of the dollar-aday approach makes more sense given the economic year that people experienced in 2009," said Aisha Chaney, community services co-ordinator for the Salvation Army in Oakville. "It's not as hard on the pocket to set aside an extra dollar as you pay for your morning coffee. If one person designates one dollar for one day, they are contributing to a day of shelter, food and hope for someone hurting." Donations for the month of May will be accepted at the Oakville Place booth, or directly at the Salvation Army at 1225 Rebecca Street. Whether its $31 or $1, every donation counts.
