SingOUT! for grieving kids Inspired BY POETRY: Randall Maggs, author of Night Work: The Sawchuk Poems, read poems from his book at the Moonshine Café, as part of Poetry month in Oakville. The month-long array of special, poetryrelated events will wrap up with an Open Mic event to be hosted at Timothy's, 321 Lakeshore Rd. E. (east of Trafalgar Road), upstairs, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, April 29. A group of singing children will do what they do best to help bereaved children and those who support them. SingOUT!, a benefit concert for Oakville's Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children, is Sunday, May 2 at St. John's United Church, 262 Randall St. The concert will feature the Oakville Children's Choir and Mentor College Children's Chorus directed by Jeff MacLean with special guests Andrea Naccarato, Marnie Kersten and Janelle Hanna. Lighthouse provides supportive services to children, teenagers and their families as they cope with their loss and grow through their grief. The concerts, titled Sing Sing Sing, will take place at the Glen Abbey United Church. The a cappella group has been entertaining Oakville for 42 years. The concerts take place at 1:30 p.m. and 7 :30 p.m. The church is located at 1469 Nottinghill Gate. General admission tickets cost $20 and children and seniors get in for $10. For tickets call 905-847-8220. Fundraiser for cruise ship performances A group of local dancers is getting a chance to perform aboard a Caribbean cruise ship, but to get there they need some support. InMotion Dance West Inc. is putting on a fundraiser this Friday, April 30 with performances from its students. All funds raised will go towards paying for the flight, accommodations and other fees of several of the school's dancers who will be performing on the cruise ship in May. The fundraiser will be cruise ship-themed and will include performances, raffles, door prizes, auctioneer, silent auction and Angel Card readings. Guest appearances will include performances by singer Danny Deakin, auctioneer Martin Ross of the Toronto Professionals Auctioneer Company and Alisa Walton of Brave Body Pilates.
