25 · Friday, April 16, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com E-fair to invest in futures n By Emily Politeski and Graham Wright GRADE 8, ÉCOLE FOREST TRAIL O n Wednesday, May 12, the Grade 8 students of École Forest Trail will be hosting the school's very first entrepreneur fair. At our E-Fair, Grade 8 students will be selling their very own creations. Students first conducted extensive market research by going class to class and asking a variety of questions to ensure their products would be wellliked by their consumers. Students then finalized their market research in a variety of graphs to showcase their results. They used the results to manufacture products. The Grade 8s were also responsible for writing persuasive investor letters to their parents, the investors, to gain financial support for start-up costs by convincing them to purchase the materials necessary to manufacture the creations. This money is to be paid back post-fair with the profits. École Forest Trail is a single-track French immersion school and the project will be completed in both English and French. The purpose of this project is to teach students business skills. With the help of intermediate teachers, Ms. Giglio and Mme. Clarke, these students successfully designed and manufactured a variety of products that vary from jewellery and accessories, to homemade versions of Silly Putty and Play-Doh. Parents of the Grade 8 students, along with all students of École Forest Trail, are invited to attend the E-Fair to browse and purchase products. The projects will be assessed and evaluated by several judges, including teachers, community members and a member from the business world. A portion of profits will be donated to cancer research, the association of choice, voted by the Grade 8 students. Prices for the products will range from $1 to $10.
