The board is hosting its 2010 Student Awards of Excellence Ceremony on Monday, April 26 at 7:30 p.m. at Christ the King Secondary School in Georgetown. At its 22nd annual anniversary celebration, the school board will honour both the Sharing The Spirit Student Award of Excellence recipients and the Spirit of Inclusion Award winners. The school board's Special Education Advisory Committee presents the annual Spirit of Inclusion Award to just one elementary student and one secondary student. This year's winners are Maryanne Kovalchek of Burlington's Corpus Christi Secondary School and Steven Brake of St. Andrew School in Oakville. Also each year, one student representative is selected from each Halton Catholic elementary and secondary school to receive the Sharing The Spirit Student Award of Excellence. A gold medallion and a certificate will be presented to each of the eight high school and 40 elementary student winners. Students selected to receive a Sharing The Spirit Award were nominated by their principal. Each had to have demonstrated outstanding qualities in the following areas: Catholic leadership; family commitment; involvement in school affairs; involvement in community activities; and, dedication to a difficult situation or task.
