For long-ange departures, one-third to half the weight of the aircraft can be fuel. Also, a tank truck filling the storage tanks at a gas station. Safety in both these cases depends on proper safety procedures being in place and followed, such as electrical grounding and no smoking within the vicinity. Has a cost-benefit analysis been made for Flynn's proposal weighing the associated incremental costs for loss of efficiency and providing the additional infrastructure, against the lowering of the risk of premature death, injury etc. from a power plant explosion and the reduction in pollution? Whereas it is often stated that Nanticoke is a good site, as the infrastructure already exists to bring power to the GTA, I understand most of the power replacing that which came from Lakeview comes from one of the Pickering reactors due for closure, thus coming through the grid from the east rather than the west; and that upgrades in the system to the west, including the possible need for new power lines, will be required for Nanticoke, as would be the case in locating the plant away from the grid. Is this the case? If so, along what corridors might new power lines be routed? Will the municipalities in the southwestern GTA be asked to take on an extra tax burden to cover the cost of providing the additional infrastructure with Flynn's proposal, or will users be required to accept another surcharge on their gas bills, in addition to higher rates for gas because of the additional transmission losses? The answers to these questions and any other relevant issues, I feel, should be openly in the public domain to enable people in the area affected to make a rational decision on whether to support Flynn's proposal or not.
