7 · Friday, March 19, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Town gets funding for life sciences park The Town of Oakville has received $95,000 in grants to explore the creation and to design of a new life sciences research and technology park. The money -- to be used by Oakville Economic Development -- will pay for the development of a plan for the park, including a conceptual plan, strategic investment analysis, marketing plan, servicing and technical analysis and 3-D modeling of the proposed park. If plans should get the go-ahead, the proposed research park will be built near the new hospital in north Oakville. The money comes from the Invest Canada Community Initiatives (ICCI), which contributed $50,000, and another $45,000 came from the Ontario Realty Corporation. "Funding from all levels of government is vital to creating a stable and thriving economic base in our community," said Mayor Rob Burton, in a press release. "This funding will further Council's vision of building a healthy business environment that is strong, diversified and prosperous." "This initiative builds on the town's Economic Development strategy which identifies the life sciences sector as an important industry sector for growth in Oakville," said Dorothy St. George, director of Economic Development for the Town of Oakville, in a press release.
