The forum is set for 7 p.m. in Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH). The kidneys play a central role in the human body and are as important to health as the heart, liver or lungs. Many of the body's organs depend on the kidneys to work properly. The kidneys' main functions are to remove waste products and regulate water in the blood, help control blood pressure and produce hormones to promote strong healthy bones. Over time, certain diseases, such as hypertension (high blood pressure) and diabetes, can damage blood vessels leading to kidney and heart disease. Participants will learn the causes of kidney disease, and in particular the consequences of hypertension on the kidneys. Learn who is at risk for developing kidney disease, the prevention and control strategies through healthy lifestyle choices and the medical treatments available. Uncontrolled hypertension can speed up the natural course of any underlying disease. There will be reduced parking fees for those attending the seminar. Displays will be available from 6:30 p.m. and the seminar starts at 7 p.m. Call 905-878-2383, ext. 4379 or e-mail healthpromotion@haltonhealthcare.on.ca to register and for information.
