To meet this demand, the Halton Industry Education Council (HIEC), in partnership with the Ontario Trillium Foundation, will host the inaugural Men as Career Coaches (MACC) event on Thursday, March 4. It will feature guest comedian and journalist Cabral `Cabbie' Richards of The Score. Registration will begin at 5:15 p.m. at the Burlington Convention Centre. Richards is the host and producer of two weekly shows on The Score -- Cabbie on the Street and Cabbie Unlimited. He discovered his unique interviewing style while attending Ryerson University's Radio and Television program in Toronto. While interning at The Score in 2001, Cabbie pitched his own show idea to the network, which eventually evolved from a set of five-minute interviews to a halfhour weekly segment. He has since been called outrageous and entertaining. MACC was inspired by the very successful Women as Career Coaches (WACC) program, which has more than doubled its attendance since 2005. Like the WACC program, MACC will operate as a free-to-attend intergenerational mentoring program that encourages community members to act as career coaches and discuss their goals, career pathways, and accomplishments with younger generations. Student participants, ranging from Grades 9 through 12, will become more informed about the opportunities available to them. This informal and dynamic event offers attendees a free buffet dinner, the opportunity to listen to diverse speakers and allows participant engagement through many interactive activities.
