Hot chocolate fills in for lemonade n By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF After undergoing three recent brain surgeries to cure his severe epilepsy, Oakville's seven-year-old Jack Yeilding has had to put his massive fundraising efforts on hold. Yet, the heroic boy's current rehabilitating in hospital is not enough to stop the fundraising in the commu- nity, which goes to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children where Jack is treated and has had his surgeries. A group of Oakville's St. Mildred'sLightbourn School students, a private girls' school, has stepped into his small, but inspirational, shoes. In the afternoons of Wednesday and Thursday, a group of Grade 10 students held a bake and hot choco- late sale, all the proceeds of which are going to Jack's Lemonade Fund, which goes to the hospital. In just a few years, Jack's Lemonade has raised more than $150,000 for the hospital in an effort to find treatments for children with disorders of the brain. "We're having a bake sale with hot chocolate for Jack Yeilding," said the event organizer Isabella Bergagnini, n PHOTO COURTESY JODI YEILDING See Students page 16 A MILESTONE: Jack Yeilding and his mom, Jodi, leave Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children after Jack had three brain surgeries this year.
