Familiar rival stops atom AE Rangers at International Silver Stick After defeating teams from across North America to reach the final, the Oakville atom AE Rangers were denied a International Silver Stick championship by a provincial rival. The Whitby Wildcats edged the Rangers 2-1 in double overtime, the winning goal coming on a point shot that deflected off an Oakville defenceman's posterior and into the Rangers net. "A real bummer," quipped Oakville assistant coach Bob Randall. The Rangers are hopeful of a chance to avenge their loss to the Wildcats this spring as the two teams could potentially meet in the OMHA finals. In the meantime, head coach Scott Stevenson is proud of his team's accomplishment as International Silver Stick finalists. "As a coaching staff, we were exceptionally proud of how the boys represented Oakville, their parents and, of course, each other," Stevenson said. "Losing in double OT is a memory we will cherish." Earlier in the tournament, the Rangers defeated the Port Perry Predators 5-2, Hyland Hills Jaguars (Colorado) 10-1, Bamburger (Michigan) 8-0, Chicago Hawks (Illinois) 5-1) and Anaheim Ducks (California) 3-0. Members of the squad are Aidan Hosein, Christopher Vezina, Matthew McGuigan, Shane Randall, Devlin Forsyth, Devon Wilson, Francis Guay, Roberto D'Agostino, Adam Grace, Kyle Renpenning, Alexei Morita, Derek McVey, Tyler Stevenson, Michael Keating, Justin Verdon, Stephen Kemp and Ben Schledewitz. Dave Grace rounds out the coaching staff, Scott Wilson is the trainer and Linda McGuigan is the manager. 35 · Friday, January 29, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com * www. com FREE DAILY SERVICE Morning and afternoon departures to Fallsview Casino *After $10 Casino Rebate Government Photo ID required European Engineering Combined With Traditional Workmanship Aire One will donate $100 on each Furnace & Air Conditioner system sale until the end of January 2010 to support Haiti relief efforts to UNICEF.
