Firefighters collecting for Haiti While many local businesses have set up collections for relief efforts in Haiti, the Town of Oakville has announced the Oakville Mayor's Haiti Relief Fund. Donations can be made at any of Oakville's seven fire stations or at any Oakville TD Canada Trust branch. "The devastation in Haiti is extensive and our community wants to offer support to those in need," said Burton. All proceeds will go to Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF Canada. In addition, Oakville firefighters will hold a fill-the-boot campaign on Saturday, Jan. 23 at Oakville grocery stores. Firefighters will be at the following stores collecting cash donations until their boots are full: · Real Canadian Superstore, 201 Oak Park Blvd. · Fortinos, 173 Lakeshore Rd. A Wee Celebration at Erchless Estate Sunday Oakville Museum at Erchless Estate will host A Wee Celebration on Sunday, Jan. 24. The annual event that celebrates the birth of Scotland's greatest poet Robbie Burns, and the Scottish heritage of many of Oakville's founding families, will take place from 1-4 p.m. The public is welcome to attend for the piping in and Address to the Haggis along with readings of Robbie Burns's works as performed by Ian McNicol and Doug Orr. The Playford Players will provide musical entertainment while the event will feature traditional Scottish fare including haggis, oatcakes and shortbread. Children's activities will be offered throughout the afternoon. Tickets cost $7 per person. Space is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance.
