The public is welcome to view the concrete toboggans during technical inspections on Friday, Jan. 29 at the Hamilton Convention Centre and watch the races on Saturday, Jan. 30 at the Glen Eden Ski & Snowboard Centre in Milton. Both events are free. Some 400 engineering students from 20 universities across Canada will be competing. Viewing takes place from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Hamilton Convention Centre. The racing takes place 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Glen Eden. This competition is the largest and longest running national engineering competition in Canada. It challenges students to design and construct toboggans with a running surface made entirely of concrete. The sleigh must meet a weight limit, have a functioning brake, and a roll cage to protect its occupants. Judges evaluate the competitors based on the technical aspects of their designs as well as performance on race day.
