Tom served as a pilot and navigator in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy. Together they had 4 children who were the centre of their existence. He had an uncanny ability to fix and build things including the family home in Scarborough. He worked most of his life in the insurance industry until he and Dorothy retired to Fedhaven, Florida where he became an avid golfer. They returned to Canada in the late 1980's to live on the beautiful, peaceful shores of Georgian Bay. Dorothy became ill and passed away in 1994. Tom then moved down to Barrie to be closer to his children. He was living in the War Veteran's facility at Sunnybrook recovering from surgery but developed complications and passed away peacefully in his sleep. Tom was a hardworking man who embodied the values of truth and honesty. He enriched the lives of all those he encountered over the years with his loving and giving heart and his amazing tenacity to take on any challenge life sent his way. He had a joy for life and helping others. He had a laugh that was larger than life and enjoyed nothing more than being with family and friends. The world will never be quite the same without his smiling face. Tom was the devoted husband of the late Dorothy Reta Crawford (Tom's Angel). He is the dear father of Carrol (Jeffrey) Magder of Rancho Mirage, California, Pam (Jim) Kucherawy of Barrie, Debra (Gary) Meger of Barrie, and Warren (Denise) Crawford of Oakville. Missing him also are his grandchildren: Lisa (Mark) Appleton, Aviva (Daniel) Fersht, Ari Magder, Joshua Magder, Jason (Janet) Kucherawy, Ryan (Crystal) Kucherawy, Aaron Kucherawy, Elizabeth Cawley, Danielle Cawley, Stefan Crawford, Meagan Crawford, Evan Crawford, and Lauren Crawford. Tom was also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Aaron Smythe, Alyssa Smythe, Jacob Appleton, Jonah Appleton, Sienna Fersht and Alyssa Kucherawy. Dad, we love you, miss you and will keep you in our hearts forever. Thank you for the life you gave us, and the lessons you taught us. The story of life is the blink of an eye. The story of love is hello then goodbye. Cremation has taken place at Tom's request. A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at a later date.
