OAK second at Youth Cup Oakville Aquatic Club (OAK) swam to a second-place finish in the overall standings at the 27th Youth Cup meet, held last month at the Etobicoke Olympium. OAK finished with 1,932 points, 645 more than thirdplace North York. The host Etobicoke club won the meet with 2,206 points. "We had very strong performances from all groups," said OAK head coach Alex Wallingford. "Several swimmers had to get up and race back-to-back weekends and were feeling pretty weary by the end of the meet. But they were still racing hard through the (final day) finals and distance events." Tera Van Beilen (15-16 girls) and Mack Darragh (15-16 boys) each won their age group Youth Cup high-point trophy. Brody Dyson achieved a senior national time in the 200-metre backstroke. Bridget Jordan, Annie Harrison, Van Beilen and Darragh set individual club records at the meet. The club's 15-16 girls' 4x400m freestyle relay team of S h a r a l y n n Missiuna, Marni Oldershaw, Julie Calvert and Van Beilen set a new club mark as well, as did the 15-16 boys' 4x200m and 4x400m freestyle relay teams (Peter Serles, Reid Scarrow, Kent Kikot, Darragh). Also winning individual medals for OAK were Erin Assman, Hannah Burgess, Gamal Assaad, Mitchell Gour, Mackenzie Hamill, Miguel Lozano, Matthew Mac and Evan White. Bantam Hornets claim Pittsburgh title After losing their first game, the Oakville bantam BB Hornets went undefeated in their next five contests to win the championship at a recent girls' hockey tournament in Pittsburgh. In the tournament final, the Hornets surrendered the opening goal before rallying to win 2-1 on goals by Jamie Godber and Charlotte Dunn. The tournament featured five teams from Canada -- including the Hornets' league rival Burlington, who they beat in the semifinals -- and five from the United States. Other members of the team are Sarah Kozma, Rachael Hardy, Annie Gutgesell, Liana Giovino, Emily Taft, Emma Guimaraes, Kate Barkley, Stephanie Patterson, Marissa Sputore, Dayna O'Hanlon, Lexi Doherty, Madelyn McHenry, Lauren Ashby, Evelyne Guay, Cassidy Feeney.
