March of Dimes volunteers will be knocking this month Listen for the knock on the door this month as January is March of Dimes month. For the 59th year, March of Dimes is holding its annual door-to-door campaign to help increase the independence and community participation of people with physical disabilities. This year, the organization has recruited more than 10,000 volunteers across Ontario to brave the winter weather and raise funds. "Our goal is to raise more than $40,000 in Oakville," said Mary Lynne Stewart, director of fund development and communications for March of Dimes. This year, March of Dimes hopes to raise $1 million across the province. Monies collected through the door-to-door campaign will help the thousands of Ontarians with physical disabilities, many of whom have been waiting months or even years for the programs and services they need. Just some of the programs the campaign supports include its assistive devices program, a rehabilitation program, conductive education, social opportunities for people with disabilities and more.
