The idea of having themes at the two schools was a recommendation passed by trustees this June as part of the PARC 14 accommodation process. The selected theme for Clearview, which will open as a new JK-8 school in fall 2010, is Innovation for the 21st Century. New Central's theme is Creative and Critical Thinking for the 21st Century. It will be a JK-6 English-track school starting September 2010. Board staff says the themes will enhance the curriculum, providing an opportunity to promote student engagement and learning through a specific theme. The themes at each school were determined through meetings with school councils and residents' groups, as well as public meetings. Each school will be given $10,000 to implement the theme. This money will be used for emphasizing the theme through special events, extra-curricular activities, as well as school interior design and décor.
