19 · Wednesday, December 2, 2009 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Store owner aims to bring Christmas cheer to women's shelter Petra fled to the women's shelter with nothing but her two children, and a bad memory. I met Petra 16 years ago. After hearing her story I decided if I could ever help support the women's shelter I would. Petra stayed at the shelter after running from an abusive husband. She is now successful, professional and full of life. Her children are healthy and happy, and they adore her. She is one of my best friends. I have profound respect for my friend, who had the courage and strength to create a life for her children without abuse. There are roughly 70 women in the local shelters at any time who have made the same decision. It is hard to imagine them and their children spending Christmas there. When I opened my store 12 years ago, I decided to keep my promise. Every Christmas the staff at Goodnight Goodmorning write Christmas cards, and tuck new pajamas, robes, and nighties into elegant boxes. Every woman in the shelter receives a donated gift. We all can help. These women need everything from new towels and bedding, to pots and pans. Goodnight Goodmorning would like to ask you to bring gifts for the women into the store and, in return, you will receive 20 per cent off your purchase.
