Wa y n e Joudrie, 56, has served as director of education since October 2005. He has decided to retire, with the last day of Wayne Joudrie his five-year term coming at the end of August 2010. "I am actually two years past my required retirement date as prescribed in the Ontario Teacher's Pension Plan," Joudrie said. With the death of her father, Louku and her mother had been forced to move from their home in Kitale, Kenya, where Louku was born, to the Kipsongo Slums, an area known by some as `the place of the dogs.' Now a young woman, Louku remembers the hardships of her childhood in Kipsongo with she and her mother having little to eat and often going to sleep Charles Mulli hungry. The situation for Louku only got worse when her mother started drinking. "When she came home she would beat me and then I thought I could not continue living with my mother," said Louku. "Then I decided to go to the street." On the streets of Kenya, the lives of children are rarely happy ones with children often falling into lives of drug addiction, sexual exploitation, thievery and despair. A second Halton resident has fallen victim to the H1N1 influenza virus. Halton Medical Officer of Health Dr. Bob Nosal reported yesterday afternoon a man in his eighties living in a nursing home in Halton died earlier this week from a lab-confirmed case of the pandemic H1N1 flu virus. It's against the Region's policy to give out details such as the victim's name, residence or when he died, but Nosal confirmed he did have an underlying disease. He was admitted to hospital last week. A woman in her seventies became Halton's first H1N1 victim when she died early this month after being hospitalized with the virus. She also had underlying health issues.
