OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, November 6, 2009 · 42 Hawks, Titans advance to senior girls' basketball semifinals The Loyola Hawks and Holy Trinity Titans were the only Oakville schools to survive Wednesday's quarter-final round of the Halton high school senior girls' Division 1 basketball playoffs. Loyola defeated the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils 44-35, Trinity whipped the Nelson Lords 55-26, the Abbey Park Eagles fell 62-30 to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Bishop Reding Royals downed the Georgetown Rebels 58-52. Loyola will visit Notre Dame and Trinity will play host to Reding in Monday's semifinal games. The championship is slated for Thursday at Sheridan College. Loyola, in particular, had to earn its way into the semifinals. The Red Devils trailed by only two points going into the fourth quarter, when the Hawks pulled away. Marti Killeen had the big play for Loyola in the fourth quater as she drained a three-pointer despite being fouled, then sunk two free throws for a five-point trip.
