Solar Tour rounding out season in Halton The Halton Residential Solar Project (HRSP) is holding its final event of the season Sunday, Nov. 1. It is a tour of solar energy installations in and near Halton. Systems on display include three solar photovoltaic (electricitygenerating) systems and two solar pool heating systems. The homeowners, project team members, and/or installers may be on site at each location to describe and explain the system. HEN is organizing the solar project to increase awareness of renewable energy technologies and facilitate the adoption of solar energy systems throughout Halton. 21 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, October 28, 2009 HIEC celebrates successful links To celebrate 20 years of successful business, education and community partnerships, the Halton Industry Education Council (HIEC) is hosting a 20th anniversary gala on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at the Burlington Convention Centre. To celebrate the occasion, HIEC will host Richard Florida, author of the best-seller The Rise of the Creative Class and his latest book Who's Your City, as keynote speaker. Florida is one of the world's leading intellectuals on economic competitiveness, cultural and technological innovation and demographic trends. He was recently named one of Esquire Magazine's Best & Brightest. Nov. 17 is a significant milestone for HIEC since it commemorates the exact date the Halton District and Halton Catholic District school boards, chambers of commerce, Sheridan College, local industry and municipal representation came together in 1989 to officially form an industry education council in Halton. "The 20th anniversary is designed to commemorate HIEC's successes over the past two decades and recognize the community efforts that make those successes possible," said Kelly Hoey, HIEC's executive director. Tickets cost $150 per person and $1,200 per table of eight. HIEC's anniversary is not only a celebration, but also a rejuvenation of HIEC's mission to Inspire Informed Career Decisions. HIEC is calling this effort the 20th Anniversary Legacy Project. The project will focus on bringing past-supporters, HIEC champions and community stakeholders together to renew their involvement in HIEC's programs and events to better serve the community.
