"If one great soup can make your day, imagine what 19 will do," said Gay Longo, representing Longo's. The third annual Empty Bowls will be at Appleby College's Dining Hall from 12:30-3 p.m. Billed Souper Bowl III, local chefs will serve soup in bowls made by potters, students and artists. The $50 ticket funds Home Suite Hope apartment renovations and support, addressing a range of causes underlying poverty and homelessness. As a thank you to those who purchase bowls and a reminder to the community of people in our midst who are in need, Cobs Bread and freshcooked and donated soup is served. Chefs will be serving the 2009 soups: Tikki Tikka -- mulligutawny soup; Catered Fare -- seafood chowder; Stoney's -- roasted heirloom tomato with pesto goat's cheese crisps and beef carpaccio; Whole Foods -- maple roasted autumn squash soup; Corks -- caldo verde (Portuguese potato, carrot, cabbage and kale); Seasons -- rutabaga, sage and apple; Sodexo -- Willis Farm's apple vichyssoise; Campbell's -- southern-style barbecue beef dumpling in organic Jalapeno ginger-spiked chicken broth; Jennifer's Kitchen -- corn chowder with bacon; Cucci -- ribollata Tuscan soup; Julia's -- roasted apple, sweet potato and carrot soup with cognac sour cream; Ritorno -- potato, asiago and arugula soup with a basil pesto drizzle; Bite Me Twice -- butternut squash; Rude Native -- vegetable and sausage gumbo; Myka's Catering -- curried lentil soup; Oliver & Bonacini -- O&B mushroom soup; Jonathans -- lobster bisque; Longo's -- gourmet mushroom medley with a goat cheese herb topping; winter white bean soup with truffle oil and French onions.
