It turns out, they were right. An exhausted, but jubilant Max Khan was named the new federal Liberal candidate for the Oakville riding late Tuesday night at a nomination meeting. The Ward 6 Town councillor used his victory speech to thank his many supporters, as well as send a warning to Conservative Oakville MP Terence Young. "I was told that this was the biggest nomination in all of Canada and that sends out Max Khan a strong message to the Conservatives and to Terence Young that we in Oakville are ready to take this riding back," Khan said to overwhelming applause. Khan defeated nominees Mary Chapin, Connie Laurin-Bowie, Darla Campbell and Stuart Howe. Nearly 1,100 members of the Oakville Liberal Riding Association turned out to vote at Tuesday night's nomination meeting. The final tally for Khan was not revealed. Voting was done by preferential ballot, where members were asked to rank the candidates, assigning them a number of one through five. In an exclusive interview with The Oakville Beaver following his victory late Tuesday night, Khan outlined his plan for the coming weeks.
