OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, September 16, 2009 · 12 Try an Afghan dinner tonight Supper for Schools will take place tonight (Wednesday) to raise funds for resources for the newly-built brick school for girls outside of Jalalabad, Afghanistan. The event includes Afghan music, a fashion show of Afghan clothing, a 50/50 draw, and a member of Canadians in Support of Afghan Women (CSAW) as a guest speaker about the schools. CSAW has supported school building in Afghanistan. An Afghan family will serve up a traditional dinner from their homeland. The menu includes two types of rice, chick kabob, borani (eggplant), kofta (meatballs), bulani, nann bread, Afghan caesar salad, and dessert is ferni and glaabgaman. Supper for Schools will see the doors open at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 7:15 p.m. at 2185 Marine Dr., Party Room (buzz #229, take the elevator to the basement and turn left). Cost is $30 per person. Chick Flicks @ 5 Tonight is the third annual Chick Flicks@the 5 Drive-in . It costs $20 a car, the tailgate party starts at 5:30 p.m. and movies begin at dusk. Proceeds will go to The Halton Women's Centre. Find out what happens when more than 250 women, a pole dancer and a John Travolta flick get together with firefighters offering to wash the car for charity.
