Cyclist helps raise money for kids' camps Anthony Sreblowski really only got serious about cycling in the last two years. But when he heard about last month's Tour for Kids, he didn't hesitate about getting involved. "I like to support events that promote healthy living and there's no better way to raise money than getting out and being active," said Sreblowski, who works as a massage and sports injury therapist. Still, with a 200-kilometre ride through rural regions north of Toronto for four consecutive days, the Tour for Kids can be daunting. Sreblowski began training for the ride in January, hitting the roads in March for rides five times a week. There was only so much any rider could prepare for, though. There was no way to train for the heavy rains riders had to contend with on two of the four days. Sreblowski also came down with a chest infection just before the ride and although he said it didn't affect him while riding, he said night-time coughing fits did cut into his sleep. The most difficult part, though, proved to be the third day where riders were "climbing non-stop" on the hills between Peterborough and Haliburton. "It was a little bit of pain for a good cause," Sreblowski said. "It's a great event so it was all worth it. I can't wait to do it again next year." The Tour for Kids raises money for children's cancer camps, giving children the opportunity to enjoy a camp experience while still receiving the special care they need. Sreblowski raised $1,200 for his ride, contributing to the more than $850,000 raised across the province.
