Wedding in hair salon was stylish affair By Tina Depko OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF 3 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, August 26, 2009 It was hair products that brought them together, so it seems only appropriate that they held their wedding in a salon. Oakville native Sandra Beaudry married sweetheart Ralph Bryant Saturday night at Atelier Salon in downtown Oakville. The intimate wedding with just over 50 guests featured an evening ceremony, followed by hors d'oeuvres and dancing. The blushing bride said it was everything she could have hoped for. "I thought it went really, really, really well," she told the Oakville Beaver. "Everyone said they had a really great time, which was important to me. People were saying how much they enjoyed the different things we did with our wedding." Beaudry, 32, and Bryant, 39, met three and half years ago at a sales meeting in Santa Monica, California for a high-end American hair product company called Bumble and bumble. Beaudry was working as a field sales consultant for the region from Manitoba to Nova Scotia, while Bryant, a New Yorker, was based at the head office in the Big Apple. Both were in relationships at the time, but Beaudry couldn't help but notice something special about Bryant. "I never really notice people, but he was the first person to ever catch my eye from across the room and I didn't even realize that he was part of the Bumble family at that point," she said. The pair became friends, eventually helping each other through their breakups. When both were finally single two and a half years ago, it became apparent they could no longer ignore the growing bond between them. "We were both sick of the dating scene and decided to spend more time together," Beaudry said. "He asked me to come to New York and I invited him to Toronto, and we ended up travelling back and forth between the two cities every weekend. That continued for a really long time." Bryant proposed to Beaudry during a trip to the Dominican Republic in August 2008. The pair had planned to marry that October, but shortly after returning from their vacation, the couple received some life-changing news. "I had been feeling sick, but I thought it was from my vacation, so I went to the doctor," Beaudry said. "They called and said I was healthy, but I was pregnant." Bryant came to work and live in Canada through a work visa in October. A healthy baby boy named Justin was born in March. "It's been a busy year and a half, but a very happy one," said Beaudry. The couple then moved forward with wedding plans, looking at traditional venues. Nothing seemed to suit them until the idea to marry in a hair salon came into the picture. "We were at Atelier in Oakville, which is our only exclusive Bumble salon in town, and ERIC RIEHL / SPECIAL TO THE BEAVER MOMENT TO REMEMBER: Sandra Beaudry and Ralph Bryant stand in front of their friends and family to exchange their wedding vows at Atelier Salon on Saturday night. we were having a meeting with the owners and we asked them, and it couldn't have gone better," said Beaudry. "They said they would be honoured. It was like a story from a book. " Beaudry said one of the most memorable parts of her wedding was taking a moment to light candles to remember special relatives, such as Bryant's parents and Beaudry's favourite aunt and grandparents, who had passed away and were unable to be there. "It was difficult they weren't there for this celebration, so we wanted to remember them," she said. The pair plans to create a life in Halton and have recently purchased a home in the area. Beaudry is currently on maternity leave from Bumble and bumble, with Bryant filling in for her sales territory in the meantime. Beaudry said she hopes the pair can both work with the company locally once she returns from her year-long maternity leave. "Ralph and I both love Bumble so much, and our salons and the stylists are just phenomenal. I can't imagine not going back to work and he can't imagine not doing this job either," she said. The pair has decided to celebrate their love by taking each other's last names, becoming the Bryant-Beaudry family. Beaudry laughs about the potential problem this may give their son Justin when he is an adult. "We're just hoping Justin doesn't marry a girl with a last name like Smith-Jones and they have to hyphenate all their names," she said. "But whatever he decides will be good with us."
