11 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, August 14, 2009 Fifty volunteers helped latest Walls of Hope project Continued from page 5 Logan and Lucas' bedroom to the main floor of their townhouse, created a parking spot for Lucas' power chair in the newlyrenovated laundry room, bought new toys for the boys and built walls in the basement to segregate a new playroom from Valerie's new workshop that now has outlets and overhead lighting. "We're blessed with good spirit in this community," said Walls of Hope's Mansueto. "It only ever takes a moment to convince volunteers and donors to join in the effort." More than 50 people, from electricians and drywallers to painters and upholsterers, transformed the Craig's home. "I was totally speechless," said Valerie when she saw the finished product Sunday. "I had no idea they would do as much as they did." A mural of race cars, one with Logan's name and the other with Lucas', is painted on the boys' bedroom wall where new beds were built. New furniture stands in the kitchen and living room and a swing set and flower garden grace the newly-seeded "The boys were as shocked as I was and now, as soon as someone enters the house, they want to show them their new bedroom immediately." Valerie Craig backyard once littered with refuse. "The boys were as shocked as I was and now, as soon as someone enters the house, they want to show them their new bedroom immediately," said Valerie. They have plans for a sleepover soon. And to give back some of what she has gained, Valerie, like many Walls of Hope recipients, plans to help with the next home makeover slated for December. "This experience has given me newfound energy," said Valerie. And this is exactly the goal of the local charity. "As we build up homes, we build up the lives of the people who live in them," said Mansueto. For more information about Walls of Hope email sera.sunrise@sympatico.ca.
