11 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, July 24, 2009 Take part in Scanning Day at the library T ake part in Scanning Day at Oakville Public Library on Wednesday, July 29. It will take place from noon to 4 p.m. at Central Branch, Oakville Public Library, 120 Navy St. Oakville Public Library is actively looking to increase the collection and local awareness of our rich Oakville history and we need your help. Via Oakville Images http://images.oakville.halinet.on.ca/, you can access hundreds of images documenting the entire history of Oakville and area and we are excited to offer you the opportunity to add your own historical materials and images at Scanning Day. Brian Bell, director of online services, is certain this scanning day will be successful. "Scanning Day reaps many benefits and enriches the wonderful collections of Oakville Images. On actual Scanning Day, we can generally scan one or two images for people, but the hope is that we offer the opportunity for our residents to learn how to use the software and add to the collections themselves," said Bell. If you have any photos, postcards, or other historically-rich images, please bring them to Oakville's Central branch on Scanning Day. Our volunteer team will be on site to scan your images for display online at Oakville Images and ask you about the context of each image. We ask each donor bring no more than 25 images as larger collections will require an individual meeting. If you are unable to make it to the branch on Scanning Day, an alternative arrangement can be made upon request. Oakville Public Library offers training sessions for image scanning procedures, including how to display them online using OurOntario.ca software. To find out more about Oakville Images and to confirm your attendance on Scanning Day, contact Jacquelyn Bennett, Oakville Images Assistant, at jbennett@oakville.ca or call 905815-2048, ext. 5076. E-mail or leave a message, including your name, contact information and how you heard about this event. We look forward to seeing you there. -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library WE BUILD CHAMPIONS 2009 Dodge Grand Caravan Canada's # 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 AUTOMOBILE JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION OF CANADA 2009 Dodge Journey Canada's 1 Selling Minivan BEST NEW PICKUP TRUCK # 1 Selling Crossover Our Selection can't be beat.
