CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN ON OAKVILLE VETERANS' MEMORIAL Construction will soon begin on the new George's Square Veterans' Memorial addition, to be completed this fall. The memorial addition commemorating all Oakville veterans of WWI, WWII and the Korean War will consist of two curved walls at the north and south ends of the existing cenotaph, complimented by new benches and landscaping. Updated Honour Roll Lists Now Available for Final Review From October to December 2008, the Town made the comprehensive honour roll lists of names available to the public to confirm existing details and gather additional information before the names were permanently attached to the memorial. During the research of the Oakville veterans' lists, a number of errors and omissions were found on the previously established lists for the Trafalgar Township Memorial. Corrections to the plaques on the Trafalgar Memorial will also be made in the coming months. At present, there is only one name included under the Oakville Korean War Honour Roll List. The updated honour roll lists are available for review in hard copy at the ServiceOakville desk in Town Hall. Corrections or adjustments must be received before July 31, 2009. The complete lists and plans for the memorial addition are also available at www.oakville.ca/georgessquarememorial.htm. Members of the project team including Town staff as well as the consulting team of Natural Resource Solutions Inc. and Envision The Hough Group will be available for questions. PUBLIC INFORMATION MEETING North Oakville Urban Forest Strategic Management Plan June 24, 2009 6 to 8 p.m. Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road, South Atrium The Town of Oakville is presently undertaking a North Oakville Urban Forest Strategic Management Plan (NOUFSMP) for the lands north of Dundas Street. The plan was a recommendation in the Urban Forest Strategic Management Plan which covered the lands south of Dundas Street and was approved in principle by Town Council in April 2008. The purpose of the NOUFSMP is to provide a high-level strategy and planning recommendations for achieving a sustainable urban forest in North Oakville. The NOUFSMP will complement the Urban Forest Strategic Plan and work already done for the lands south of Dundas Street to further the Town's goal of 40 per cent canopy cover by 2057. During the closure, the signed detour route will be via Kerr Street and Queen Mary Drive/Stewart Street. Every effort will be made to minimize the effects of this road closure. Please exercise caution and obey all signage placed for your safety. We thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding during the construction period.
