Second police chase suspect arrested Halton police have made a second arrest in connection with a June 14 incident, which saw a police officer fire shots at an oncoming SUV. The incident took place at the Oakville Entertainment Centrum, near Winston Churchill Boulevard and the Queen Elizabeth Way, when police attempted to arrest two men who were allegedly seen stealing a GMC Yukon from the facility's parking lot. Police said as they approached, the suspects, one in the Yukon and one in a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche SUV, attempted to escape with the Avalanche driver accelerating directly towards one officer. Fearing for his life, the officer drew his service pistol and fired three shots, which are believed to have hit the driver's side window or door. The vehicle missed the officer and sped around the complex where it picked up the driver of the Yukon, who had crashed his vehicle into a building. Police recovered the stolen Yukon, but the Avalanche driver was able to escape. The following day, the Avalanche, which was also reported stolen, was found abandoned and burned on the Six Nations reserve in Oshweken. On Friday, police arrested Christopher Allan Hill, 20, of Brantford and charged him with theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property and failure to comply with a probation order. Jayme Christopher Hill (no relation), 19, who was arrested on June 16, is facing a charge of attempted murder in connection with this incident. The Special Investigations Unit (SIU), which becomes involved when there is a serious injury or death involving police, would not comment on whether anyone was injured in the shooting. 5 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, June 24, 2009 LESS THAN LEVEL BAR AN D G R ILL For all your sports and entertainment needs.
