Wiarton, June 18, 1886. /To the Editor of the Standard./ We the undersigned having noticed some gross misrepresentations in one of the local papers representing a case of Small Pox which appeared in Wiarton, beg leave to make the following statement: In the early part of the month, a young man by name Clark, affected with Small Pox, was shipped from a neighboring town to our village. Shortly after his arrival the local Board of health was apprised of the nature of the disease by the attending Physician. The affected man died a few days after his arrival, Every possible percautions was taken, both before and after his death, to prevent the spread of the malady, and so thoroughly were those precausions carried out, that we have not had another case in our village, and as the time for the development of the disease has more than lapsed, we are warranted in officially stating that the village is entirely free from it, and there is not to our knowledge any case or cases of Small Pox either in our village or within a radius of twenty miles. T. D. Galloway, Sec'y B. of H. C. V. Parke, Chair B. H. R. M. Fisher, Medical Health Officer.
