OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, June 11, 2009 · 16 Health Oakville Beaver Hospital grounds to be smoke free next month Oh look, there's another one. Green signs are popping up all over Halton Healthcare Services' (HHS) three community hospitals in Georgetown, Milton and Oakville, stating `These Grounds are Smoke Free, July 1, 2009'. With only four weeks left before the big day, the countdown is on and Halton Healthcare is gearing up in preparation. "In addition to the signs and our communications campaign, we have created a new corporate smoke-free policy and have identified stress relief and smoking cessation programs for our staff," explains Megan Suddergaard, HHS Health Promotion Manager, who has been coordinating HHS' Smoke-Free Task Force. "Our front-line staff members are currently being trained in the medical management of patients who will be unable to smoke while staying in our hospitals," she added. "Our goal is to support our patients, staff and volunteers through this transition so that we are ready to go full steam ahead on July 1." "As a healthcare organization, we should do everything in our power to set a healthy example and provide a smoke-free environment for our patients and DENTURES tarting at S NO BUTTS ABOUT IT: John Stones installs one of the new smoke-free signs, letting visitors to Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and Halton Healthcare Services' other hospitals know that smoking is no longer permitted on the grounds as of July 1. staff," explains John Oliver, HHS President and CEO. "Going smoke free is an important preventive measure which will help promote health and wellness, and send an important message to all levels of our organization and our communities about the harmful effects of tobacco." Halton Healthcare Services is following in the footsteps of neighbouring hospitals that have already created a smoke-free environment. --John Stones, special to The Oakville Beaver 379 905-815-8208 $ LIMITED TIME OFFER RESEARCH STUDY Dr. Jenna Davis Family Chiropractor/ Acupuncturist Alliance Healthcare Professionals Dr. Jenna Davis 905.845.2291 Specializes in: · Pediatrics · Pre and Postnatal Care · Naturally Turning Breech Babies · Fertility Issues DO YOU HAVE JOINT PROBLEMS FROM OSTEOARTHRITIS?
