Vol. 52 No. 70 Transit facility gets cash By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Members of the federal and provincial governments put partisan politics aside long enough Friday to hand Oakville $30 million for a new transit facility. The infrastructure funding announcement, believed to be the largest in Oakville's history, took place at 430 George Wyecroft Rd., Smitherman where the facility is scheduled to be operational by late March 2011. "One of the most important responsibilities government has is to provide leadership on the economy, to provide leadership and to give our economy a much needed shot in the arm," said Baird. Baird noted investing in infrastructure was one way to make a recovery happen. The $30 million was equally presented to Oakville by the federal and provincial governments. The Town will fund the remaining $15 of the $45-million facility through its capital budget.
