Volunteers needed to help with fastpitch nationals The Oakville Girls Softball Association (OGSA) is preparing to host the national bantam girls' fastpitch championships, but it needs help. Volunteers are needed to help with various tasks involved with the event, which will take place July 29-Aug. 2 at Trafalgar Park. Such tasks include score-keeping, ticket-taking and team-hosting. All volunteer hours will be honoured for any students seeking high school community service hours. "Volunteers will play a key role in the success of this national event," said OGSA president Tim Harche. "Not only do volunteers play a critical role in ensuring a smooth run of the show, but they also act as unofficial cheerleaders to help keep our athletes motivated." The OGSA has been active on the volunteer front itself in the past, providing help with community events and activities like the annual Mayors Invitational Softball Tournament that raises funds for the YMCA of Oakville. Volunteers can sign up by e-mailing nationalvolunteers@rocketmail.com. Taekwon-Do challenge Sheridan College will be the venue this weekend for the 2009 ITF Challenge TaekwonDo Championships. Morningstar Taekwon-Do will host Saturday's event, which will feature competitors from all age and belt levels.
