On Friday afternoon last, Donald Kennedy, an old man 82 years of age, who lived on the Durham road near Bunessan, committed suicide by hanging himself in the barn. His wife died very suddenly about a year ago, and since that time he has been of a somewhat discontented and restless state of mind. On the morning of his death he prepared for a journey saying he was going to his daughter's who lives in Bruce. He went as far as a bridge across the creek at T. McCombe's where he was seen examining very closely the creek and its surroundings, evidently with the intention of drowning himself, but his actions did not arouse suspicion at the time. He then went home and into the barn, and was last seen alive there some time after dinner. All being busy at the hay no further attention was given him until about four o'clock when his little grandson was sent to the barn for a rake and found him hanging there. He at once gave the alarm but life had been extinct for some hours. He had placed a rail across the corner of a log barn, and a fork lower down on which to stand while he fastened the rope. No motive can be ascribed for committing such a terrible act, unless it was done during a temporary fit of mental aberration. Dr. Gunn, Coroner, was notified but did not deem it necessary to hold an inquest. His friends have the deep and hearty sympathy of the surrounding neighborhood.--/Grey Review./
