Following months of negotiations, an agreement was reached and approved by both the teachers' union and public school board. The deal is effective from Sept. 1, 2008 to Aug. 31, 2012. Maureen Weinberger, ETFO Halton Local president, said the union didn't get everything it hoped for in the deal, but that it is satisfied with many aspects of the agreement. "When you are talking to a bargainer, and I'm sure both sides would say this in any situation, you're never 100 per cent happy because everyone doesn't get everything they wanted, so you have to make concessions and that's the way it goes," she said. "But yes, this is a good deal for our members and we're pleased to have it in place for three more years."
